It is certain that Forman was visited by two women, to wit John Ellis’s mother and Mrs Lockly, and that the question was about John Ellis. One of the two women was a poulterer’s wife, but it is not clear which; one of them was resident at ‘the cradel’ (presumably a tavern), and one of them (possibly the same one) had been formerly resident in Plymouth. The metadata given below is accordingly very conjectural.
