Place directory

This page lists the places referred to in entries in the casebooks. The vast majority are places of residence for Forman’s and Napier’s clients; a few are mentioned in accounts of or questions about journeys and voyages. The list is hierarchical, organised in alphabetical order by country, then by county, then in steps down to individual villages and hamlets. For reasons of convenience, listed among the countries is an ‘Other places’ category into which places as diverse as Cumberland, Antwerp and Aleppo have been placed. There is a list of places so far unidentified at the end.
