RN 1596. Iunij 4. die ♀ h. 7. m. 45. they s {sic} hoysed sayles & came w^th & were caried w^t fortunate winds to the harbour of Cales & came before the towne vppō ☉ mor: about 5|h|. 5. 50 m. & cast ankre w^thin the shot of the towne & were tossed w^th exceeding boysterous & blustering winds all y^t day & in great iudy to make shipwrack t|&| to leese there ankers. but vppon ☾ mor. 5|h|or. 5. 50 m. mor. they fought togeath^r w^th a hot & doubtfull battle¹ but at lenght gote overcame them w^c caused thē to burne there ships. afterward entred y^e towne & wōne it. at what in the entry they slue S^r Iohn winckfilde

RN The Earle of Ess set forw. frō plimmoth to wardꝭ {sic} towardꝭ his voyage bending to Cast Cales & so to his voyag onward. the 23 of Iuly. beinge satterday. 5. h. 30 mi auror & so went forward w^th sp. winds that satterday & sunday. on munday following the skye clouded & misted & grew blacker & blacker. on tuesday the 26 of Iuly all the fore noone exceeding windꝭ hurling & tossing thē. to & fro. w^c made thē brake there tops & b caused thē to cut there gabels & {left} adast agaynst our {vwne} {sic} reckꝭ w^thinto {sic} two miles of Plimothe 1 a pinnes called the tobacco pipe & 1 3 hollanders ships & by leaking almost endangered the gener. ship. y^t w^th mutch a doe was saved & this winde drove thē back againe into almost w^thin the harbour of plimouth on the 27 of Iuly fell arose an exceeding winde & a great tempest of reane as if heaven & yearth should goe togeath^r the forenoone.
